Rev. Beth's Advent/Christmas Letter 2020

Dear Friends:

We will not forget the 2020 Advent-Christmas season, the year of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year the season will certainly look different from previous years. Yet there are some things that will remain constant regardless of the pandemic.

It is the love story of God and his incredible gift to us, His people. It is a story of hope, love and joy. It is a story of a baby born to an unwed teenage mother and a bewildered young father. Though the circumstances of the pregnancy and the birth were unusual, the parents were reassured that this was the baby the prophets had called the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, and the Everlasting Father. He may not have been the gift the world was expecting, but believe it, His birth is the best news the world has ever known.

During this season we take more time to prepare our hearts for the arrival of the Prince of Peace.

Our familiar traditions focus our attention on the hope and light of the message from this tiny infant. It is a message that will change the world.  And during this pandemic, it may feel like we have been walking in darkness, but whoever follows me (the Prince of Peace) will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life (John 8:12). The light has filled our hearts with His joy, peace and love. This year we may have to change or adjust some of our activities with friends and families.  We can be creative singing carols with our loved ones, reading the Christmas story or lighting the advent wreath on Zoom or Skype! Even in the midst of a second COVID wave, Jesus’ light will shine and we will know that our God is always constant, unwavering and faithful.

This will be my last Christmas with you.  From the deepest part of my heart I thank you for the honor and privilege of growing with you in faith in our King – Jesus.

Do have a blessed Advent and Christmas season. Your sister in Christ,

Rev. Beth Hewson+
