Community Ministry

Jesus teaches us to love our neighbour and that every man, woman and child in the world is our neighbour. Through community ministry, we reflect God's love for humanity by loving and caring for our neighour.

Open Arms Café

St. John's provides take-out dinners from 5 to 6 p.m. every Wednesday. Please come by and pick one up.

During CIVID-19, 2020 pandemic, Open Arms Café makes between 85 to 100 bagged meals.
On Wednesdays between 5:00 to 6:00pm, guests to pick up their take home meal. Forty
additional meals are delivered to the Pete Palangio Arena that is the Warming Centre Shelter
for those in need of a roof over their head.

Ginette Boucher, Lloyd Leonard and Peggy Morrison are some of the volunteers who help with
this weekly ministry.

Sponsored Students in Guatamala


St. John’s sponsors three students in Guatamala: Fredy, Evelin and Lesly. Colin Thacker a loyal
member of the church has spearheaded this program beginning in 2015 through his
involvement with the Rotary Club. For many years, Colin and his wife Marlene have visited
Guatemala and the students.

Food Shelf

While COVID - 19 precautions are in place the Food Shelf will still be operating as a take out service every Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Lynda Hughes, Ginette Boucher and Barb Johnson are three of the volunteers at St. John's Food Shelf and they are preparing takeout bags of food for the ministry which takes place every Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30.

Community Brunch

Unfortunately due to COVID-19 the West Ferris Community Brunch at both St. John's and Emmanuel are cancelled until further notice.

 

Men’s Group

The Men's Group meetings normally held the first Thursday of each month are on hold until COVID - 19 restrictions are lifted.

Please Note: Men’s group meetings do not take place in July or August. They will resume on the first Thursday in September 2019
