Garage Sale, a Fun Day & Big Success
St. John’s held its third garage sale in two years and it was definitely a huge success.
Not only did the event raise money for its outreach programs but it was a fabulous fun day for young and old parishioners alike.
The City of North Bay graciously let us use the parking garage across from the church, so it was, in fact, a true garage sale.
Helpers started arriving at the church about 7:30 a.m. to get ready for the advertised 9 a.m. start time. Within minutes tables had been set up in front of the parking garage building and the migration of workers carrying boxes of items began.
The sale not only aided the church’s programs, but it helped everyone clear out their closets and cupboards as they donated items that they hadn’t used in years and in some cases, had never been taken out of their original containers.
Customers started arriving before everything was unpacked but that was okay. It seems that most of us love to rummage through boxes looking for those very special items.
There was definitely something for everyone from a garden gate and lounge chairs to hundreds of books and furniture.
At one point a box of multi-coloured wigs was opened and with Rev. Beth’s urging some of us donned the wigs for a photo opportunity.
It was fun as customers and workers alike yelled out to friends both old and new to come and look at a perfectly wonderful treasure they had found.
However, time definitely doesn’t stop for anyone and soon it was 1 o’clock, time to pack up the remaining items, stow them in waiting trucks and cars to be delivered to second hand stores.

Organ Dedication
In December 2019 a new Phoenix Organ was installed for worship at the church. The organ was paid in full by two sources. The Whatmore Fund and a generous anonymous donation from a family in the congregation.
For various reasons the organ was not dedicated when installed. COVID occurred and the church was closed until it was safe to reopen for worship.
There is an ancient proverb that states: “One who sings….prays twice.” In the New Testament believers are commanded -not once, but twice in the letter to the Ephesians and the letter to the Colossians to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to one another when we meet.
Music is invaluable to worship. Music acts as a vehicle for people of faith to feel the presence of God and the Holy Spirit among us. St. John’s is fortunate to have this wonderful instrument and the many talented musicians who play it for our worship to praise God.

Confirmation Service
October 6, 2022
Parishioners from St. John’s Church and St. Brice’s Church were confirmed and received by Archbishop Anne Germond into the fellowship of this communion. Friends and family gathered in the David Johnson Hall after the service and the those who were confirmed or received cut a special cake marking the event.

St. John’s Garage Sale was not only huge, but very successful and most importantly, great fun.
There were hundreds of items for sale at St. John’s garage sale and there was a steady stream of visitors who looked, touched, and purchased at least 75 per cent of the items that were for sale. There was everything from dishes and furniture to coffee, tea, muffins and plants.
